I made a promise to someone awesome that I would devote a post to spreading the word about a project that she is a part of and for a good cause.  Without further ado, here is the project and details, lovingly ripped from the Tumblr post.

SO WHAT IS THIS, ANYWAY?

This is, to put it as simply as possible, a chance for fandom to unite for a good cause. Instead of buying gifts to give to Tom Hiddleston throughout NYCC 2013 and the Thor: The Dark Worldpublicity season, this campaign encourages charitable donations instead. It’s a good chance to show that fandom can find common ground in more than just, well, fan things, and use our numbers for good.

WHO GETS THE MONEY RAISED?

With the exception of the 99¢ per transaction PayItSquare fee and 30¢ per transaction PayPal surcharge (and, depending on the artist’s needs, potentially part of any fanart commission sale), all funds raised between July 25 and October 7 2013 will be directly donated to Morgan Stanley New York-Presbyterian Children’s Hospital in New York City, USA. I will be looking into bringing my laptop to the hospital to have a witness from their trustees’ department observe and verify the transfer. The total collected money will be going straight from this PayItSquare account to the hospital, no strings attached.

NYP Morgan-Stanley Children’s Hospital is ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the USA for cardiology and shares a medical center and staff with the similarly ranked Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. It is within the top 100 US children’s hospitals in the country (along with its partner hospital on the Upper East Side, the Komansky Center) . Its history (starting with its earliest immediate predecessor) dates back nearly 250 years and includes several outstanding breakthroughs in pediatric medicine.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE LOKI FANDOM?

LadyLokiLaufeyson conceived the idea based rather simply on the fact that rather than expressing admiration for an actor via purchased gifts, it would make a much bigger impact to rally together for a good cause and deliver the proof of what we did in the name of fandom instead. I will be attending NYCC 2013 and will be making an effort to personally deliver a record of donations and the transfer of the money to the hospital at the planned Thor: The Dark World panel and/or signing; if this proves impossible, I will look into a non-invasive alternate means of passing the records along. Everyone who donates will be included on this record.

IS THIS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?

I will be looking to see how to arrange that for those who are interested.

WHAT IF I WANT TO HELP MORE CREATIVELY THAN JUST GIVING SOME MONEY?

If you are an artist or other creative type of fan and are interested in selling some of your work to benefit this fundraiser, please email me at [email protected] and we’ll set something up. If selling your work for no profit is implausible for your needs as an artist, it’s possible to arrange things so that the fundraiser gets a percentage rather than the whole thing (ideally, at least a 50-50 split).

HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO GIVE?

Whatever you can afford and want to give. Multiple donations are fine, too.

DO I NEED PAYPAL?

Nope! Credit and debit payments are accepted too.
